This is afour and a half hour hike with one climb of 200m that takes about an hour. After this climb we reach a point where local Mayans perform ceremonies There is a breathtaking viewing point over the highlands from Chaval to la Campianilla and the volcanoes of Antigua, San Pedro, Santa María, Tajumulco and Tacaná. Further on some old mines can be visited where they were used to dig for metal. Then the descent begins over a small track. After that we will go to Todos Santos. This hike is quite difficult and the any one who attempts it must be in good condition to be in good condition.

This route is part of the old Ruta Maya, the antique connection between Chiapas in Mexico and Zaculeu (Huehuetenango)It is a hike that descends for 3 ½ to 4 ½ hours from 3400m to 2450m following the river. Tuj Xolek is a place that can be visited on the road from La Ventosa to Todos Santos. At this holy site where local Mayans perform ceremonias, there are small caves and rock pillars. In the rainy season there is a small lagoon. From here, we hikd for one and a half hour more to Todos Santos.

What to bring / wear: Hiking boots, long trousers, wind or rain jacket, sun block, sun glasses, camera, binoculars and at least 2 liters of water. .

The hike is not difficult; except for the challenge provided by the high altitude, which can cause minor difficulty. This hike includes transport to Todos Santos where the hike starts and will end in San Juan. Transport back to Huehuetenango is included.
