Takalik Mayan Lodge

Oasis in a green and brown world ….

This ecotourism project has been developed at finca Montes Elíseos in El Asintal, Retalhuleu. The property is located 190.5 kilometers from Guatemala City, around a 3-hours’ drive. Visitors can visit this finca by taking the Pacific highway (CA-2) and turning off at Colombia, Costa Cuca, Quetzaltenango (CA-Occ. Proceed 4km. along this highway until you pass El Asintal, where Takalik Abaj archaeological sites is located; the lodge is 2 km. down the road.

Montes Elíseos extends over 72 hectares, some 700 meters above sea level. It is along the Pacific coastline, more specifically on the volcanic belt leading to the coastal plains. Average temperature is 26.5 degrees centigrade; with an average rainfall of 3.284 mm. the area receives rainfall six months out of the year, with a warm, benign climate, making it appropriate for visits throughout the year.

The region´s inhabitants are mostly Ladino, although there are also Mam and K’iche ethnic groups.
