IGLESIA PUEBLO VIEJO, SAN SEBASTIAN & SAN JUAN ATITAN

First we will visit Iglesia Pueblo Viejo, where the tour continues with a visit at San Sebastian. This is a village situated 108 km from Huehuetenango on an altitude of 1668m. An important characteristic is that in the time of the conquest many inhabitants went to lower tropical grounds to work there in the agriculture in the north, east and west of the country. In this village they also have the tradition to choose a kind of priest that has to pray for the well being of the families, the harvest and the animals. Then we will visit San Juan Atitan which is a village situated at 34km from Huehuetenango. In this village they make and very special are the heads made from palms. The men as well the women in the village wear traditional clothes. This village is especially worth a visit on the market day, which is Thursday.

This tour starts at 07:00 am with a ride in a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle right across the Cuchumatanes to Nenton where you will arrive at about 11:30 am. After a visit to this town, the tour continues to the CimarrĂ³n hole which is a strange hole in the ground. You would be surprised how big this hole is, and how this ever could happen. To reach the CimarrĂ³n hole, you have to walk for about 45 minutes through an amazing and bizarre landscape which was once the bottom of the sea. After this visit the tour will continue to Quen Santo. A pair of carved stones can be found there and the cave has 100m of depth. To enter the cave, you have to ask permission, because if not, it will bring you bad things. This all is a walk of about 1 hour, again through the same landscape. The place is beautiful to visit and it is recommendable to wear good shoes because it is quite some walk to the cave, though a walk in a beautiful environment. At 05:00 pm you will return to Trinidad, where the car will be ready to bring you back to Huehuetenango, where you will arrive at 09:00pm.

This tour starts at 8:00 am in Huehuetenango. There the church and the central park will be visited with the relief of the region of Huehuetenango.
After that the tour will continue to Chiantla, this is a small village close to Huehuetenango. There the church will be visited with the statue of Maria in a silver dress. The tour will continue to El Mirador. This is a marvellous viewing point with a great view over the Cuchumatanes. With good weather even Santa Maria and the volcanoes of the lake of Atitlan can be seen. The viewpoint takes the name of famous poet huehueteco, whose famous poem evokes the splendour of these mountains. In this place a series of pyramids exists, each one with a bronze plate where one of strophes of the poem, To the Cuchumatanes can be read, furthermore there is a sculpture surrounded by the shields of the municipalities of the department. After that the tour will continue to Unicornio Azul. This is a horse farm situated on a beautiful spot in the Cuchumatanes. The tour ends with the transport back to Huehuetenango.
