Description:
This pre-Columbian site of the Mayan civilization is located in the department of the Petén. It was founded by a branch of the dynasty of the great city of Tikal, going back to the year 629 D.C., in order to control the commercial routes of the Petexbatun region, especially by the Passion River.

In particular, the story of Dos Pilas reflects the great rivalry and political conflicts that characterized the late-classical period. At present time researchers have been able to trace back its nature with a level of detail that is almost unprecedented in the Mayan region, making it a fascinating place to visit. In 197 it was declared a National Monument.
